Alex's Skills and Styles

Alex J Hall is a composer, arranger, conductor and musician currently studying at Guildhall school of Music and Drama in London, UK. Alex has been writing music since the age of 10 and has spent his time since writing pieces of music for small orchestras, choral ensembles and piano, as well as experimenting with electronic and electroacoustic music too.

Alex has, in his short time as a composer and conductor, won songwriting competitions, directed and conducted a chamber-sized choir performing pieces by such notable composers as John Taverner, Paul Mealor and Palestrina and written for a range of ensembles and scored a number of short films.

His influences come from wide and far, drawing on Contemporary classical methods, Jazz and Popular music. Having played piano in local Jazz bands of his home town of Reading, bass guitar in an orchestra, and having starred as a vocalist in such productions as Miss Saigon playing the coveted part of Chris and sung in numerous choirs, Alex has a practical experience of performing to compliment his composing.

Alex has worked with a variety of ensembles and instruments, with a strong grounding in current music technology. He also writes music for himself to perform on piano and sing.
